Stonehaven is a short drive or train journey south of Aberdeen. We will meet at the parking area immediately above the north end of the Beach at Cowie.

Our Guide

Colin Turner’s career as a geologist spans over forty years, having been employed by the British Geological Survey prior to joining Marathon Oil Company in 1983, from which he retired in 2016. Having graduated with a B.Sc. from Reading University he spent a total of nine years studying and working in Canada, Solomon Islands and Australia, gaining an M.Sc. from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario and a Ph.D. from the University of New England, Armidale, New South Wales.

Since joining Marathon he spent six years in the USA working mainly on the deep-water Gulf of Mexico, and for the remainder of his career he was based in London and Aberdeen, working on U.K. and Norwegian offshore hydrocarbon projects, in particular the area of Marathon’s Brae fields in the U.K. part of the South Viking Graben

After the walk we will have drinks & dinner at the Marine Hotel overlooking Stonehaven’s picturesque Harbour.

Dinner will be charged at £25 perhead and bookings will open on the 28th April
